If you are looking for a way to start the new year with better foot health, you might want to consider podiatry. Podiatry is a branch of medicine that deals with the diagnosis and treatment of foot problems, such as nail disorders, hard skin, infections, and injuries. Many people who visit our clinic tell us that they wish they had come sooner, because they have been suffering from foot pain and discomfort for a long time. They have tried to cut their nails by themselves, but they often end up hurting themselves or making the problem worse. They have also spent a lot of time and money on soaking their feet, buying creams and products, and struggle bending over to reach their toes.

If you are one of them, you don't have to struggle anymore. Podiatry is not only for people who have serious foot issues, but also for anyone who wants to take care of their feet and prevent future problems. Podiatry can help you with cutting your nails safely and professionally, removing hard skin and calluses, giving you advice on how to care for your feet at home, and recommending the best footwear for your needs.

You might think that podiatry is too expensive or unnecessary, but that's not true. Podiatry is an affordable and effective way to improve your quality of life and your overall health. Your feet are the foundation of your body, and they deserve your attention and care. Don't let your foot problems get worse or affect your mobility and well-being.

So take the next step and make your appointment today. You will be glad you did.

Nail cutting

Nail cutting is one of the most important actions we do for the care of our feet. Incorrect cutting can lead to ingrown toe nails, rough edges and long term damage.

Many think a podiatrist does not just cut nails, we do and we will check your nails are in good order at the same time, advise you on care and treat any problems we find. If you need your nails cutting because they have become to thick or you can no longer reach down to them please contact us

Callus and corns

What are callus and corns?

Callus is a build up of skin which can become painful. The skin can also crack and bleed. The heels and bottom of the foot being usual areas it will build up.

Corns are painful points of pain caused by pressure or friction. They can be anywhere on the foot. Most common areas are on the toes, over the bottom of the foot or in between the toes. If you suffer from any of the above please contact us.

Sports Shoes

Many nail problems are caused by stress on the nails. These stresses can be shoes, environment, sport and beauty treatments like Gel nail polish, nail varnish and buffing. The stress on the nail opens them up to attacks to fungal nail infection, which usually starts with slight discolouration along the edge or on the surface of the nail. As time progresses, the fungal infection spreads down and across the nail, often effecting neighbouring nails.

Prevention & Cure

The first step to nail recovery is to make sure that you really are suffering from a fungal infection, as many other nail conditions mimic the look of a fungal nail, such as psoriasis. To clarify the reason for your discoloured nails book an appointment as soon as possible to prevent the further spread and and damage to the nails. Fungal nail treatment can take time to take affect so we advise to start treatment as soon as possible.

We now offer 5-minute fungal nail testing, to complement our assessment and treatment options.

Toe nail Reconstruction

Toenail reconstruction is a cosmetic or medical procedure performed by a podiatrist. We use a specialist gel that is layered either directly onto the nail or nail bed if no nail is present due to trauma or surgery. This creates a brand new nail or covers unsightly or misshapen nails so that the nail is more aesthetically pleasing.

Nail reconstruction is not a permanent solution. The length of time that the nail reconstruction lasts will vary from person to person. The new nail will generally last between 4 and 6 weeks but can last longer depending on how much of the nail is damaged; after this time the reconstructed nail is removed and reapplied.

The treatment procedure:

  • If you have a nail the podiatrist will begin by reducing the nail and removing as much of the diseased nail as possible. The nail is then roughened with the file

  • The toenail is cleaned to remove oil and disinfected

  • A solution containing an anti-fungal is applied to the nail plate/nail bed to enhance the bonding of the gel

  • The podiatrist will then apply the gel in layers, with each layer being hardened under a UV light. As soon as the desired look and thickness has been achieved the nail is then filed and buffed smooth

  • Finally, if desired, a high gloss layer can be applied

  • A reconstructed toenail may be treated in exactly the same way as you would treat a normal nail, this means that you can also apply nail varnish and use a nail varnish remover
